Blended Learning

With the use of PLANET PETROLEUM Serious Game

PLANET PETROLEUM represents 4-days course including the following elements:

  • Pre-Quiz
  • Classroom course
  • Encyclopedia
  • Serious Game
  • Final competition

PLANET PETROLEUM blended learning offers a general knowledge and understanding of the petroleum industry processes to:

  • Job applicants: it validates their global understanding of the oil & gas industry
  • Newcomers: it makes easier their job integration
  • Current employees: it improves their understanding of the oil & gas environment

Having as a final goal the participants’ productivity increase.

WE STAND FOR THE BLENDED LEARNING AS IT ALLOWS TO BALANCE THEORY WITH PRACTICE, in this case, by means of the virtual reality.

1 – PRE-QUIZ

The objective of the pre-quiz is to assess participants’ prior knowledge regarding the following topics:

  • Players
  • Geology
  • Geophysics
  • Drilling
  • Development
  • Production

2 – CLASSROOM COURSE

The training is said to be blended as it represents the combination of classroom theoretical courses based on the encyclopedia content and the sequences of serious game in study and competition mode.

Each chapter of the encyclopedia is explained by the coach through the dynamic content: videos, pictures, charts, animations. The chapters are directly related to the serious game sequences and provide to participants the necessary knowledge to make the right decisions in a virtual reality of the game.

3 – ENCYCLOPEDIA

Encyclopedia represents the training material (over 400 interactive pages) covering the following subjects:

Players: History. States – Permits – Contracts. Oil Companies. Contractors. Manufacturers…

Geology: Concepts. Sedimentary basins. Stratigraphical scale. Hydrocarbon formation – Source rock. Traps & prospects – Cap rocks – Reservoir rocks. Reserves…

Geophysics: Concepts. Seismic principles. Acquisition on/offshore.  Recording and data processing. Interpretation…

Drilling: Concepts. On/Offshore equipments. Rock destruction – cuttings. Drilling principles & Operations. Hole data. Deviated holes…

Development: Concepts.  Appraisal. Economic evaluation of projects. On/Offshore development. Supports…

Production: Concepts.  Physical principles. Production wells.  Water / Gas injector wells. Productivity. Manifolds. Separators. Production centers…

Economy and costs: as background: Principles, Cost of the Barrel, Profitability, Economic evaluation, Farm-out.

This training material remains available during the game sequences.

4 – SERIOUS GAME

The objective of the serious game is the successful management of a virtual oil company. The attendee will have to take care of the following processes:

  • Project settlement: Taking permits. Partnership, level of participation…
  • Seismic campaigns:    Acquisition. Prospects: potential reserves, depth, ranking…
  • Drilling: Prospects; selection and potential. Operations:  choosing rigs and rock bits. Results:  dry / commercial reserves. Rating. Statistics board panel. Strategies…
  • Development: Rating and selection of discoveries. Selection criteria.  Definition of development schemes…
  • Economy  &  Production: Economic evaluation  by  project,  financing,  farm-outs (permits and/or structures). Production scheme…

Being in turn Geologists, Geophysicists, Drillers, Producers, Economists, Chief Executive Officers, the participants establish their global strategy and face, as in the real life, technical and decisional risks in a strongly competitive environment. The evolution of the value of the company will reflect the assimilation of knowledge and principles of the E&P chain.

The serious game can be operated in study mode, where every participant working at his own pace applies the theory in “real world” and acquires situational reflexes and skills.

At the end of the each section, the attendees run Planet Petroleum in competition mode. Each attendee will start with the same parameters to finish with more or less successful results. And let the competitive spirit challenge them!

5 – FINAL COMPETITION

On the last day, the final competition will show the knowledge and skills acquired by attendees. As managers of their own oil company, they will face financial constraints, time limits, random events, crucial choices which will demonstrate their reactivity and decision-making ability.

6 – REPORTS

The participants’ achievements are tracked automatically by the program, which records all intermediary and final results. The instructor analyses individual and group performances and submits the training report to the client.

The attendees receive the certificate of completion with the final competition scores.

7 – TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Planet Petroleum blended learning can be delivered in DRILNET equipped classrooms or in client premises – depending on wishes. In the latter case, the following system requirements must be considered:

  • Intel PIV 600MHz or higher
  • Microsoft® Windows® XP SP2
  • High speed Internet
  • USB plug and port
